The other night I was flipping through the latest Bed, Bath & Beyond flyer drooling over the things I want to buy (and probably don't need) when all suddenly came to a screeching halt! At first, I couldn't really tell what the ad was for. As I examined it closer, I saw the BEFORE and AFTER images. Are you kidding me? Wait, this is a butt insert to make your booty stick out more - on purpose? What the french? And they are marketing this to teenage girls? I am in shock! I thought nothing could shock me anymore but thanks to the BOOTY POP - I am in shock!
It is sort of similar to the animal kingdom. There are birds that do a crazy dance to attract the opposite sex and we stick out our butts (even if they are fake) to attract the opposite sex. But(t) why? Do women want big butts now? What happened to the heroin skinny chic? I guess, in a sad sort of way, this is some sort of progress towards embracing real women and real sized women...or is it?
It is hard enough to be a woman in this world - now we need inserts? I have spent my whole life being unsatisfied with my body. The constant barrage of images of stick thin celebrities, fashion/fitness magazines, and endless beauty products took its toll on me growing up. Only recently am I starting to accept myself - which is something that I can only credit to as getting older and wiser. I have always wanted to write/illustrate a book for young girls on the subject of body image and loving themselves no matter what - to spare girls all of the wasted time spent trying to "better themselves" according to what the media says is beautiful.
Thanks to BOOTY POP may have given me the motivation to get crackin' on that book!
